Public Slipways on Loch Lomond

There are three official Public slipways on Loch Lomond. Two are located in Balloch at the southern end of the Loch and Mallarochy Bay, near Balmaha, is on the eastern coast of the Loch.

Balloch - Drumkinnon Bay This slipway is run for the Park Authority by the Ranger Service. The slipway closes at 10pm but offers secure parking and chain down points for trailers. There are jetties for passenger boarding and the slipway offers deep water for bigger boats.

Access to the slipway is made from Balloch Road on the west side of the River and is located next to the "Maid of the Loch" Paddle Steamer".

The headquarters of the Rangers, where you can also register your boat, is next to the slipway.

Balloch - Drumkinnon Bay slipway
Balloch - River Leven This slipway is not manned by the Park Authority and can become very busy. Poor design and a narrow twisty approach road make this unsuitable for larger boats.

Although Jet-Bikes can slip here it is not recommended as there is a 6mph speed limit on the river to 150 meters out onto the Loch from the mouth of the river. There is always the chance that the plugs will foul in a cold engine before getting out onto the Loch.

  Balloch - River Leven slipway

Balmaha - Mallarochy Bay This slipway is manned by the Park Authority, they will check your registration document and also limit cars accessing the shore. This is the most popular slipway for Jet-Bikes and can be busy especially at the weekends. There is a speed limit of 6MPH to 150 meters off shore but it is out onto open water.

The Slipway can be quite shallow and a tow bar extension would be beneficial.

The Eastern end of the Loch is somewhat windier and is frequented by Wind Surfers and the Loch Lomond Sailing Club. The road to Balmaha can be quite busy on holidays and weekends with day trippers.
